I’ve been teaching at Thayer Academy since 1998 as a part time photography teacher. Every Tuesday and Thursday I go to school intending to inspire the students to create and absorb the awesomness that is photography, and everyday I come home having learned more from them than they will ever learn from me. High school students are incredible people. They are at that fantastic age where everything and anything is possible but also find the world may crumble if their intended prom date says “no”.My intention at the beginning of the year is to teach them photography – camera use and function, compositional skills, Photoshop techniques and Lightroom best practices. However, my goal is to have them experience themselves in a positive creative way that helps to make them better people. If they create beautiful images along the way, well, that is a fantastic by-product.These photos are from a day during which I took them to local parks to be inspired. The attacking geese and swans just made everything that much more exciting. Back at the school, we have the annual student art show up in the gallery. The photography facilities at Thayer Academy, including the incredible computer lab/ classroom, are really top of the line and help me to teach the students on software they will find in real life.I have been so fortunate to have many of my students and colleagues keep in touch through the years and as a result I have had the pleasure of photographing their weddings! Here are the links to Thayer weddings: Andrea & Michael / Lizzie & Mike / Katie & Mark / Anni & Tommy / Erin & LucasI have loved every moment of being a teacher and I look forward to many more to come!
