Katt and Chris were married on June 27th with a ceremony at Manning Chapel at Brown University and a reception at the Providence Public Library. These two lovebirds met when they lived in the same building their freshman year at Stonehill College, and they were in many of the same core classes. They were best friends and then started dating, and the rest is history!
Katt works as an attorney doing privacy and data security work and still finds time to go to the gym every day. Chris is an in-house accountant who loves baseball and football as well as golf. With so much going on in their lives, Katt told me they really like to unwind and watch movies together because she was a cinema studies minor in college, and Chris is a huge movie buff.
On the day of the wedding, I met with Katt and the bridesmaids at the Hotel Providence in the early afternoon, and everything was already set up perfectly for my arrival! The dress was hung on the armoire, the bridesmaids were all wearing their robes, and everyone’s hair and makeup had already been done. Now, all that was left to do was wait excitedly for Katt to get dressed!
While we were waiting, we took a few pictures of just the women together, and then it was time for Katt’s mom and sister to help her into her gorgeous dress. Her dad arrived to see how she looked, and then we headed downstairs for family pictures as well as some pictures with the bridesmaids in the lobby of the hotel.
Meanwhile, my second photographer, Anna Sawin, was with Chris and the groomsmen. They were all supposed to be wearing bowties, so they watched a YouTube video to see how it was done. Then, Chris’s brother and father helped him with the finishing touches before they headed over to meet us at the library for the first look.
When Katt and I met up with Anna and Chris, they had already done some portraits on the front steps while they were waiting. I brought Katt up the stairs behind Chris for her reveal, and you could just see her excitement as she showed off all the details of her dress!
We took some portraits of Katt and Chris on the front steps of the library where the columns and steps created an incredible backdrop for this stunning couple! I love the fact that the wind was lifting and playing with Katt’s veil. Next we moved inside for portraits with the large arched windows and into the private collections room for a few more. I especially liked the image of Chris dipping Katt and Katt kissing him with her flowers hanging down in her hand.
We headed back to the hotel to get ready for the ceremony, and Chris ventured out with the wedding party in the limousine to get to the church. Katt and I stayed behind with her dad for some portraits on the red couch in her suite. Just before we got to the chapel, Katt and her dad shared a toast of scotch.
Father John Denning, the president of Stonehill College, conducted the ceremony and was able to tell some great stories about the two of them that had everyone laughing. After the ceremony was over, we did family formals on the steps of the chapel before we headed over to the reception, where Katt and Chris shared their first dance as a married couple on the upper floor of the library.
When it was time for dinner, Katt’s sister (the maid of honor) and Chris’s brother (the best man) told meaningful and funny stories before we all headed down to the dance floor for the cake cutting and parent dances. The library had the dancing area set up in a way that felt like a stage, where everyone stood above and watched the dancing below.
The band, Men in Black, was fabulous! They had the dance floor packed the entire evening, and the energy in the air was unbelievable as guests waved glowing crowns and batons! Katt, Chris and their guests danced for hours before Katt slipped away to change into a simple, white dress for the final dance. The song “Last Dance” by Donna Summer filled the room as they took the floor, and then the whole crowd joined in as the band played three more songs. Finally, guests lined up with hands outstretched in two lines while Katt and Chris ran through on their way out to the limousine.
Katt & Chris, I am so happy that you chose me to photograph this glamorous event filled with joy and love! Congratulations to you both and to your families—may the joy and love you share continue to define your marriage!
