A big part of who I am as a photographer is the same as who I am as a person. I wanted to share my personal favorite thing on the blog today, and let you know how fitness helps me to be a better photographer for you.
I love to exercise. I was not much of an athlete as a kid because I never wanted to work at one sport. Playing softball and volleyball was fun but my absolute favorite day of the school year was Field Day. Short competitions doing random things like potato sack races… now that was FUN!
Translate that into adult life and I have found an unending source of entertainment at the gym. I’ve been teaching kickboxing for eleven years and participating in various races since then. I have completed many 5ks, sprint triathlons, three half marathons, The Warrior Dash, the Wipe Out Race, the twelve hour all night challenge at Gillette Stadium and countless other events.
The thing I love most about these is the camaraderie shared and the sense of accomplishment. I mean, does it really matter if you can push a tire through mud? Of course not but if you challenge me to do it I can’t resist. I LOVE COMPETITION of all sorts. Scrabble, running, who can fold laundry faster – I’m in!
I try to bring this sense of fun – and competition – into my photography, especially with families. I love to challenge the younger members of a family to see who can catch me first while I shoot running backwards – those are the happy, carefree & FUN images of your family that I strive to capture. Contact me if you want to learn more, I’d love to hear from you!
